Fundraising and Events
The Headway Governing Body would like to express sincere thanks to our valued donors for their support and belief in our organisation over the years.
Over the years donations have been received from benevolent individuals in the community and include some of our grateful families and big hearted volunteers. Other donations have come from private trusts and larger companies and other associations who wished to further the Headway cause.
It is the aim of The Headway Governing Body to :
- To be a primary, accessible and committed resource for persons or families affected by brain injury
- To serve all communities throughout South Africa
- To have Governance that is respected, capable and transparen.
Pledge a Portion
With the help of “Pledge a Portion” which is a registered NPO Organisation Headway has started a small fundraising initiative. This will enable a person to donate an amount of R10, R20 or R50 on a monthly basis via a SMS on their cellphone. Ordinarily one would pay up to 50% of the SMS to the network. In this case, however, Headway will receive 90% of the donation, ie for a R10 SMS we will receive R9.00.
All you need to do in order to donate is to SMS Headway 10 (for R10) Headway 20 (for R20) and Headway 50 (for R50). In all cases the number is 36629. You will then get an SMS confirming that you will be donating R10, R20, R50 per month and will then need to reply yes to activate. Before the month end you will get a reminder that you are donating money. If you would then like to stop the donation for any reason just reply stop to the reminder and the donation will cease.
The Gauteng Nomads
2008 saw a year long fund raiser for Headway organised by the generous and energetic Gauteng Nomads headed up by Mike Gahagan. The year was full of events such as a golf day, a race day, The Barnyard Theatre, a diamond ring raffle and the ‘blow-down’ of 2 buildings. At the end of 2008, with the proceedings, The Nomads presented Headway a beautiful passenger vehicle.
Iron Man Heroes Andrew & PJ Delmont
Andrew & PJ Delmont recently took part in the 2008 Iron Man Ultra Marathon competition and they raised almost R80 000 for Headway by asking friends and friends of friends to make a donation by clicking on the safe, user friendly, convenient and secure web site Backabuddy.
A small thank you ceremony for Andrew & PJ and their close family members was held at Headway during morning tea break for the attendees of the activity programme. Headway’s chairman June Cruickshanks thanked the two super fit athletes for their bravery and courage to complete this grueling event and for the dedication and hard work to get their friends and colleagues to support Headway so generously. June announced that in keeping with the physicality of the event, the money raised would be used to buy much needed physio equipment for both the Headway branches.
702 Walk the Talk Fund Raiser Sue/Allan
Sue Peiser and Allan Beuthin very kindly decided to participate in a fundraising campaign on behalf of Headway by participating in the recent 702 Walk the Talk 15km event. A Backabuddy webpage was set up for the purpose of asking their friends and colleagues plus friends and supporters of Headway to donate. Although we haven’t reached our target of R25 000 there are still donations coming in to swell the coffers and we thank the very kind people who contributed to our cause from the bottom of our hearts.
Backabuddy is a straight forward, effective and safe way to donate to any good cause - have a look at the following address
